Picture this: you’re eighteen, your boots are hand-me-downs from the ’48 war, and the snow is so high you have to piss a hole before you can squat. That’s Rezang La, 1962. Major Shaitan—we called him “Baba” because he looked older than the mountains-walks the line sharing his last cigarette, breaking it into twelve puffs so nobody feels left out. We’ve got 120 guys, mostly Ahirs whose mums packed them off with “come back with your shield or on it” drama, except our shields are rusty .303s and the only thing between us and three thousand Chinese is a ridge thinner than your little finger.
