According to the country’s news agency IANS, Dharmendra Singh Deol breathed his last at his home this morning after a long illness. The news of the actor’s death was shared on social media by production company Dharma Productions and famous producer and director Karan Johar, among others. However, at the time of writing this report at 3:25 pm, there was no announcement of death from Dharmendra’s family.
His family had earlier informed that the actor was responding to treatment. He was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital due to respiratory complications. But as the day progressed on Monday, bad news started coming to the media. The Bollywood community was in mourning over this incident.
Several Indian media outlets, including NDTV, Pinkvilla, and the Times of India, claim that his wife Hema Malini reached the crematorium in Vile Parle before rumors of his death spread in the morning. His daughter Esha Deol, Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and many others were with him at the time. An ambulance was also seen in front of the actor’s house in the morning. Rumors spread after that. However, almost all the media outlets in India are claiming that this rumor is true.
Dharmendra’s death brings to an end a golden chapter of six decades of Indian cinema. Dharmendra was recently admitted to the hospital due to a physical ailment. Rumors of his death were spreading at that time. Finally, Dharmendra stopped all the rumors and returned home after recovering. However, this time he did not return.
In a career spanning six decades, Dharmendra has been a perfect fit for everything from romantic hero to action hero to comedy king. He made his debut in 1960. Since then, he has proven himself unrivaled in one role after another. He has more than 300 films to his credit. He received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997. In 2012, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Bhushan.
