The movie has also got the one of the funniest villains ever, Crime Master Gogo (Shakti Kapoor). This movie didn’t get as much success at the box office when it first came out. 4. 3 Idiots (2009)

This film is not just as much an emotional film about education and pressure, but it is also extremely funny! The film stars Aamir Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi as three engineering students who are always up to some pranks and trying to survive their college days. The beginning of the ragging scene, the teacher’s pen obsession, and everyone else in Rancho that’s messing with everybody are all laugh out loud moments. There is no overacting. It flows from the characters and their friendship and is therefore very effective.

5. Munna Bhai MBBS (2003)

Sanjay Dutt plays Munna, a Mumbai gangster whose father believes himself to be a doctor. Unveiling the truth, Munna decides to become a doctor just to make his father proud. He enters medical college through cheating, and then goes on to unravel the whole place with his style. His hug therapy, jaadu ki jhappi, becomes popular, and the way he treats the patients and professors is charming and hilarious. Arshad Warsi’s sidekick Circuit is the ideal accomplice in crime. Most people laughed and cried in this film.

6. Welcome (2007)

This is a crazily shot comedy with Akshay Kumar playing a normal guy who falls for Katrina Kaif’s character, directed by Anees Bazmee. The only catch is that her two brothers who are played by Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor, are big-time dons. They want their sister to marry an honest man so that Akshay’s character should play along as if he isn’t involved with them. The film has a lot of exaggerated moments – the Uday Shetty-Majnu bhai moment is a prime example. The culmination is one of the most mayhem-filled and hilarious conclusions of Bollywood comedy. It is noisy, it is silly and it is pure enjoyment.

7. Chupke Chupke (1975)

Yet another beauty from Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Dharmendra is a botanist who’s already married but pretends to be a simple driver in order to tease his brother-in-law, who’s very proud of his intelligence and English. Amitabh Bachchan is playing his friend who assists in the plan and Jaya Bachchan is playing his wife, who is in on the joke. The entire film is based on this fake identity game and Dharmendra deliberately uses broken English to poke fun at his brother-in-law is too hilarious. A feel-good film that is light and a lot of fun and shows you don’t have to have big action or drama to please people.

8. Dhamaal (2007)

A group of four friends – Arshad Warsi, Ashish Chowdhry, Ritesh Deshmukh and Sanjay Dutt (and Jaaved Jaaferi) discover a hidden gem worth ten crore rupees. All of them race to find it first and it is a very, very crazy ride. It’s car accidents, identity theft and one crazy situation after another. Relationships between all the characters are just right and each character has his/her quirky humor. It’s a film you don’t have to concentrate too hard on. Simply relax and enjoy yourself while laughing.

9. Khosla Ka Ghosla (2006)

It is a little bit different from a typical Bollywood comedy. The film is set in a middle class setting where an individual played by Anupam Kher finally purchases a plot of land to construct his dream house, but a corrupt builder played by Boman Irani usurps the land and insists on handing it back to the original buyer for a price. The family doesn’t give up and decides to con the con man. Great acting from Boman Irani as the villain who loves acting, and the use of that against him by the family is genius. It’s funny, it’s smart and it’s an honest reflection of the state of the middle class in India.

10. Delhi Belly (2011)

This is not your typical family comedy. Three friends who are staying in the same apartment (Imran Khan, Kunaal Roy Kapur and Vir Das) get caught up in the underworld after an epic package mix-up. It’s a quick-paced, rough-edged film, with a lot of grown-up humor. Dialogue is razor-sharp; situations are goofy; and there’s no stopping the action. It was produced in both English and Hindi, an unusual production method for Bollywood which was still young. It demonstrated to Indians that they could enjoy edgier, more unconventional comedy. Bhaag DK Bose was a big success and the film itself is now a cult classic.
