Liger – Overview

Liger is an Indian sports action drama film of 2022 directed by Puri Jagannadh. It was the Bollywood debut of Vijay Deverakonda and starred Ananya Panday in the lead. Liger was produced on a massive scale, and was made in both languages – Hindi and Telugu, and garnered a lot of buzz prior to its release with its cast of stars, promotional activities, and the special appearance of legendary boxer Mike Tyson.

But the film’s expectations were not met, and critics and audiences generally gave it poor reviews, primarily because of its script and plot.

Liger Story

Liger is a young man’s (Liger) journey of how he manages to become a world-class Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) champ, despite his speech impediment. With his mother’s encouragement, Balamani trains hard under an experienced coach, who believes that anything is possible with hard work and dedication. As he travels, Liger meets Tanya, yet he will have to work out his personal relationship with her and his
career along with it.

As his career falters, his faith is tested and he is continually challenged, both within and outside the ring, Liger must draw his strength to keep his focus on his dream. The movie seamlessly combinessports, action, romance, and family drama, alongside themes of perseverance, self-belief, and resilience in the face of adversity.

Plot

Liger, a young man with a speech impediment, has a dream to become a world-class MMA fighter. His mother is persistent and determined, and he trains hard to make his career in combat sports successful. As he travels, Liger falls in love with Tanya, but it becomes complicated when he’s thinking of his career goals. Themes in the story include perseverance, family support, love, sacrifice and pursuing dreams despite individual problems

Final Thought

Liger’s sports entertainer had it all in the bag – charismatic cast, quality production and a bold pan-India plan. Vijay Deverakonda’s performances and the action captures the attention, but the film’s writing and storyline fail to live up to its potential.
