We’ll be kicking things off with the 1997 musical romance “Dil To Pagal Hai” which you just can’t beat SRK’s dancing and charm in. Up next is the upcoming action flick “Pathaan” which looks like it will take spies to another level.

1. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995)
The movie came out in 1995 and it’s still showing at the Maratha Mandir theater in Mumbai – it’s been playing there for over 1200 weeks!
The story follows Raj and Simran, who fall in love despite her father not approving. Going against what society expected was a new idea at the time. It really changed the types of stories Bollywood was telling.
But the thing that stands out most about DDLJ is just how well it was put together. The songs are super recognizable, the costumes were beautiful, and the locations they filmed in Europe and India were gorgeous. That famous scene on the train is just iconic. It really set the standard for Khan’s career and defined a whole era of Bollywood.
Even today, people still love that movie. It’s amazing to think 27 years later, it’s still filling theaters. DDLJ is without a doubt a classic. I don’t think anyone who sees it ever forgets it.
2. Darr (1993)
You know, even though Shah Rukh Khan has played many heroic roles, his portrayal of the obsessed lover in “Darr” is just unforgettable. The way he says “Kiran” sends chills down your spine every time. A lot of big stars turned down playing Rahul Mehra because they were afraid it would ruin their image.
But Khan totally owned that role. Rahul’s relentless pursuit of Kiran as he tries to get rid of her boyfriend Sunil is the stuff of nightmares. And yet, you just can’t look away whenever he’s on screen.
The violence and obsession was portrayed in such a captivating way. “Darr” was a huge hit and it really showed everyone how talented Khan is. There was no denying he was one of the best actors around after that.
3. Dil To Pagal Hai (1997)
Dil To Pagal Hai is such an iconic Bollywood movie. If you want to see all the big elaborate dance numbers and amazing production design that Bollywood is known for, this movie is the perfect example.
Shah Rukh Khan was already a huge star, but this movie took him to a whole new level of fame. He plays Rahul, the director of a musical show. And the love triangle he’s in with the characters played by Karisma Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit – it’s just so good. These three are rehearsing for this big career-defining show, but also struggling with their feelings for each other.
The songs in this movie are so memorable. And the dancing – especially between Khan and Dixit, their chemistry is electric. All the performances and choreography are just so fun to watch. It’s really a feast for the eyes.
With Khan and Dixit both being massive stars, it’s no surprise this movie was both a critical and commercial success. Their individual star power combined made Dil To Pagal Hai unstoppable. It’s easy to see why it remains such an iconic Bollywood film.
4. Baazigar (1993)
If you want to see how SRK really made his mark in Bollywood, you gotta go back and watch “Baazigar”. That was the movie that first paired him up with Kajol – what an iconic duo they were! In the film, SRK plays a total anti-hero out for revenge. See, his character Ajay’s dad was killed by this guy Madan Chopra.
So Ajay is determined to get payback, even if it means crossing some major moral lines. He starts going after Madan’s daughters to really hurt the guy. The movie had you feeling for Ajay’s motivation but also being like “woah, too far man!”. With its awesome soundtrack and the amazing chemistry between SRK and Kajol, “Baazigar” was a huge commercial success.
It was also a major breakthrough role for SRK. He won his first of eight Filmfare Best Actor awards for his performance. Dude totally owned that anti-hero role – it really put him on the map as a force to be reckoned with in Bollywood.

5. Devdas (2002)
You know, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is really known for bringing history to life on the big screen. None more so than his film Devdas. That movie took us way back to the early 1900s in India. Hands down the most famous version of that 1917 novel, it follows the downfall of the title character Devdas after he loses the love of his life Paro due to family pressure.
They really show you how much agony Devdas goes through without her. In my opinion, it contains Shah Rukh Khan’s best acting performance ever. The way he embodied that character, you could really feel Devdas’ inner turmoil. It showed Khan isn’t just a big name, he can really make you feel something deeper with his roles.
The story is so sad, seeing Devdas doomed to fail. Thanks to Khan’s powerful portrayal throughout, whenever I watch it I can truly feel all the pain of Devdas’ struggle.
6. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)
Khan has made a lot of movies about love triangles over the years. But this one really takes the cake. The story jumps between two different time periods, eight years apart, and we get to see Rahul in his signature role.
In the first part, Rahul is a college student along with his best friend Anjali and his love interest Tina. They find themselves in one of those classic “who will he choose” situations.
Then we flash forward almost a decade. By now, Rahul is widowed. But when he reconnects with Anjali, he discovers she’s engaged. Except now he realizes he has feelings for her too. The only trouble is, it’s a little late.
What I loved about this movie is how real the emotions felt. You really connect with the characters as they deal with lost chances and changing relationships. And the music is so upbeat and fun.
It’s also great to see Khan and Kajol together again. They have amazing on-screen chemistry and really sell those heartfelt moments. When Rahul finally admits his love for Anjali, I totally believe them.
After it came out, critics and audiences both fell in love with it. The praise and box office made this one a must-see romantic drama. I can see why it’s considered one of Khan’s best love triangle films.
7. Jawan (2023)
It was awesome! SRK plays both a father and son in the movie which is wild enough on its own. But on top of that, the movie has so many twists and turns to the story that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat.
SRK totally nails playing these two characters too – the father is super serious and intense while the son is more carefree. You really believe they’re two different people. Another cool thing is that the movie has some smart political commentary mixed in. It adds another layer to what’s happening and makes you think.
As things progress, you learn more about the true motives of the characters. This just pulls you in more to find out how their journeys will end. What I really liked is that “Jawan” doesn’t follow the typical Bollywood action movie formula. It takes the genre in a new and unique direction. SRK is also fantastic in the lead role, of course. All in all, I’d say “Jawan” is a must-see that really stands out from the pack.
8. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001)
Karan Johar really brought together some huge stars for that movie! It must have been so cool to see Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan, and the legendary Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan all in one film. The story followed Hrithik’s character as he tried to reunite SRK’s character with his estranged family.
The movie really ran the gamut of emotions – it was hilarious at times but also really dramatic and heartwarming. SRK played the loyal son of a wealthy businessman so well. You really felt for his character as he struggled between living up to his father’s expectations and pursuing his love with someone who wasn’t from the same social class.
The cast was incredibly talented and did the family conflict themes justice. The dynamic between SRK, Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan was especially praised. It was fascinating to see them all share the screen. The movie really left an impact because of how it celebrated the importance of family. Karan Johar hit it out of the park by bringing together such huge names for a story about family.

9. Pathaan (2023)
Khan slowed things down for a few years after some movies didn’t do so great at the box office. But man, did he come roaring back with this one. Pathaan is all about the action – our guy plays a RAW agent out to take down some patriot-turned-traitor trying to mess with the country. Pretty straightforward plot, but that just leaves room for some amazing fight scenes and cool one-liners that really show off how smooth his character is.
I gotta say, when they revealed Pathaan was connected to his Tiger movies, that took the hype to a whole other level. And they didn’t disappoint – Tiger even makes a little appearance himself! Plus the music is seriously awesome.
After being gone for so long, Pathaan was the perfect way for Sha Rukh Khan to come storming back. Non-stop action, great performances, and an all-around entertaining flick. If you’re a Salman Khan fan, this is a must-see.
10. Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003)
So Kal Ho Naa Ho was another heartbreaking character from Sha Rukh Khan. He played Aman Mathur, who had a terminal heart condition. The movie started off lightheartedly when Aman moved in with the Kapur family. But of course, that big reveal flipped everything upside down.
Kal Ho Naa Ho was praised for how it portrayed the struggles of Indian immigrants in America back in the early 2000s. Aman encouraged the Kapurs to stay true to their cultural roots.
The love triangle between Aman, played by SRK, Preity Zinta’s character, and Saif Ali Khan added another layer to the story. It was about persevering through hard times and cherishing your loved ones.
It all builds up to an ending that’ll definitely leave you in tears. I mean, Khan’s movies usually do, but this finale may have been the most emotional of any of his films.
